It was time to leave the coast and head eastward, crossing Oregon and Idaho into Wyoming.

Besides a stop at the Shoshone Falls, we tried to drive as many miles as we could to reach Grand Teton National Park.

Olympics National Park

The RV was stocked with food and gas, the US border crossing went well having passed a secondary inspection, we said hello to Seattle from a distance on the I-5 heading south, continuing our trip towards Olympics National Park. Stop and also highlight along the way: Costco - slice of cheese for 1.50 USD. The park itself proved to be even better than the visitor center where we got all the information we needed. Oregon Coast

The visit to the Wallingers was way to short, but we continued the trip towards Oregon's cost. We took Route 26 to Cannon Beach where pelicans, seagulls and a beautiful beach with rock formations in the water awaited us for a long stroll. We watched the sunset at Silverpoint, walked the Short Sands Trail the next morning, visited Manzanita beach, stopped at shops in Rockaway Beach and drove to Lincoln City for some Outlet shopping (60% North Face sales, whoop whoop). The stop at Robert's booksop was quirlte the highlight: it had the biggest selection of used books I've seen. It seemed as if each bit of the building was filled with shelves, all cramped with books in any genre you could think of. I bought a Mary Higgins Clark and a Jojo Moyes. Further stops along the coast: ... Cape Meares Lighthouse and Octopus Tree ... Cape Perpetua with its wild waters ... Siltcoos beach, miles of sand for just the two of us, seals which popped their heads in and out of the water like boy...

Reunion with the Wallinger Bunch

After spending the day in the Columbia river Gorge, visiting various waterfalls it was time to do do laundry and get ready for dinner with the Wallingers. A quick stupid waste of time caused by driving to the wrong address, we finally arrived at Nailah's place to have dinner and a night by the fireplace. Diane managed to gather three of the kids with only Nayomi missing as she is doing her master's away from Portland. I met them in summer 2007 at the ranch, again the same year Christmas at their place and in June 2008 when visiting with my brother and Nathalie. 17 years have passed, the kids are grown up by now.
