Pizza, pasta and fire-spitting volcanoes

Sicily during off season, good choice. A flight, a renal car and the first night after arrival is all we booked, so we were free and flexible to explore. We were not sure whether 12 days would be too much for such a small island, but it had so much to offer that there wasn't a single lame day. From mountain cities to salinas, from beaches and nature reserves to volcanoes and ancient towns, from citrus orchards to temples ...that is how much variety Sicily had to give. The highlights: - walking on empty beaches - finding porcupine quills - standing atop of Mount Etna - watching flamingos - exploring a pitch-black lava cave, finding bats - savoring busiate, pizza, pasta di norma, pesto di pistacchio, arancine, ... - watching Strombili spit fire The last mentioned was definitely the crowning glory! Coffee, Cocoa and Picture-Perfect Palm Trees

It's been pinned on the travel map, but we didn't expect to visit it so soon: the Dominican Republic. This beautiful place in the Caribbean is known for its all inclusive tourism, which, as you might know, it not "our thing". Travel blogs and videos of individual travelers were rather scarce. The few people who had experience had nothing good to say. We still decided to go and give it a try. With a positive attitude, my Spanish knowledge and travel experience and some luck, we crossed our fingers and simply hoped that all would go well. It took us two days to get accustomed. The heat, the fact that we were the obvious gringos, the traffic, authorities armed with machine guns, prices being offered in USD... it felt strange. The one thing that never got any better: the exhausting traffic conditions. 3600 km on Northern Roads

3 weeks, 3 countries: Sweden, Norway and Finland. Travelling 3600 km in a motor home giving us the freedom to move at our speed. The only timer being the vehicle's tanks that required a refill or emptying every couple of days. Thanks to the "allemansrätten" and the advantage of traveling off season we could pretty much overnight anywhere. I'd personally consider this one of the highlights of the trip. Almost every night we had an awesome spot next to a river, lake, fjord or even a waterfall. Many spots were surrounded by trees, with little light pollution and mostly total quiet. What else would you need for a good night sleep... That is, if we slept. There was reason not to. The Northern lights! Hell yeah! We did see them, not only once. They came in different shapes and intensities and yes, the camera does see them better than the human eye.
