I dont want to spoil, but what started with a little snow storm ended in a fairytale view of el Cerro Torre.
Despite the bad weather we decided to seize the day or better said to make the most of our time in Patagonia. So we had to gear up and get out into a little snow storm. No visibility, rosy cheeks from the cold wind, foggy glasses full of water drops, ... after about 1 km, we reached the trail head, leaving 9 more kilometers ahead of us.
After 2.5 km into the trail, we reached a first view point - still no visibility at all. My mood was at a rather low point but I didn't want to give up just yet.
After a while, the snowfall and wind came to an end, the landscape was powdered in white, the fresh snow under our hiking boots accompanied us with a crunching sound. Even though we had to avoid puddles of water and mud, the hike became more pleasant.
And then, after one last bit of an uphill stretch, we were standing in front of the Laguna del Torre.
Sometimes, when I can hardly grasp how lucky I am, the tiniest bit of a tear swells up in my eyes, small enough to be blinked away, but still there to be noticed. This was one of the moments. The Cerro Torre was wrapped in a haze of a cloud. It's pointed shape reminding me of the tower of the Childlike Empress in Michael Ende's Neverending Story.
The sun came out allowing us to rest without being cold. The silence and view was priceless. Pumped up on energy, we made our way home ...
