Cabo Verde - Ilha São Vicente

Flight from Fogo to Santiago and onwards to São Vicente.  The second flight was a bumpy ride in a Dash 8 propeller plane. Or better said, it wasn't bumpy but due to strong winds we were swaying from left to right. Not my favorite flying condition, but oh well.

We picked up a car, drove to the apartment and went to bed.

Day 1:

The next day, we explored Mindelo city, the fish market and local market, went to change the rental car, bought snacks and continued a road trip around the island. Few people, sunny weather, a steady strong breeze, empty roads (a mix of asphalt, cobbled and gravel).

We stopped at Praia Grande to watch some surfes and even had a little dip in the ocean ourselves.  As it was end of turtle egg-laying season, we found many broken eggs along the beach.

Day 2:

Time to check out the apartment at 11, so just enough time to go for a short walk through a little canyon.

Afterwards we bought croceries, had lunch at Cafe Creme (without being asked they brought plates with the "prato do dia" - which luckily we liked). Together with two drinks and one espresso we paid not even 13 Euros.

We then drove down to the harbor to check the schedule and change the registered license plate. Some ferry connections were canceled due to meteorological reason, ours was only delayed by an hour. We spent the additional time at pastelaria Morabeza.  Another place where locals go to eat. We had one piece of "bolo de chadrez", one piece of "bolo de bolacha", two coffees and some baked items to go. All for less than 14 Euros.

Upon entering the ferry,  we were handed puke bags. As I said, some ferry connections were canceled due to bad, windy weather and waves of 3-4 meters. The passage to Santo Antão was a little safer to to its location but we still had to face waves of up to 2.5 meters in height. Even docking the boat was a little rough. After the one hour ride, I was glad to be off the boat and back on the road, even though it was cobbled once again.

With some difficulty finding our apartment in Ribeira Grande we asked at the police station. A minute later, a pickup truck showed up, waving us to follow him. What a great service.

The last action of the day was to carry the luggage and groceries up to the 5th floor.
